BBC Radio 4 Appeal

On Sunday 19th January BBC Radio 4 will be broadcasting a special appeal from PWSA UK! 

Colette Love, a longtime supporter of PWSA UK will be sharing her very personal story about PWS and why she supports the invaluable work of our charity.

Colette's sister, Laetitia, was born with PWS but didn't receive a diagnosis until she was 19. With no access to support or knowledge about PWS, Colette's parents struggled to keep Laetitia healthy. By the time she was 19, Laetitia's weight had reached 28 stone and she had developed high blood pressure, critical sleep apnoea, and suffered frequent bed sores which turned into sepsis.

After finally receiving a diagnosis of PWS, Laetitia's parents were put in touch with PWSA UK who helped her access appropriate specialist medical care and information, and later, a place in a specialist PWS residential setting. 

This support enabled Laetitia to reach a healthy weight, manage her health conditions and live a fuller, happier life. 

Sadly, Laetitia died two years ago, aged just 47. Colette continues to support the work of PWSA UK and is using this opportunity to highlight the difference early intervention can make in outcomes for people with PWS. 

 We are asking people to donate to this appeal to help keep our vital helpline service open. 

Many of our community will be familiar with the life-changing support provided by our team, from specialist information and signposting to advocacy services or even just a supportive ear from someone who really understands the challenges of PWS.

An expert phone advisor for half a day costs fifty pounds, so anything you can give will help keep this service open, and a group of our supporters will match donations to a combined total of three and a half thousand pounds.
